'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear after the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative shot from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

This capped an extraordinary turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result booked a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right flank after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has quickly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his father, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a long trip and it was cold out there," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, several youth players and I trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "It was relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to spend time with the guys but I'm hoping to be the next one to drive independently and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
